The home of India's National Museum is New Delhi. It is located on Janpath, a major road in the city. The museum was established in 1949 and houses a collection of over 200,000 artifacts, including sculptures, paintings, textiles, and archaeological objects.
Prehistory and Protohistory - This section exhibits artifacts from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age.
Sculpture - This section exhibits sculptures from all over India, dating from the 2nd century BCE to the 19th century CE.
Paintings - This section exhibits paintings from all over India, dating from the 10th century CE to the present day.
Textiles - This section exhibits textiles from all over India, dating from the 2nd century BCE to the present day.
Archaeology - This section exhibits archaeological objects from all over India, dating from the Stone Age to the present day.
The National Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, seven days a week. Admission is free for Indian citizens and children under the age of 12. Foreign nationals and Indian citizens over the age of 12 pay INR 50 for a general entry ticket.
